Due to the referendum in Bolivia over the weekend, there was a dry law ( no booze) in effect for 48 hours before the vote. Nobody really knew what this meant. Not the Police, not our Lawyers and certainly not us. Was it to start 48 hours before the vote started or 48 hours before the day of the vote?
So in true Loki mischievous spirit we completely ignored the law and setup a good old fashioned speakeasy right in the heart of La Paz and daringly right in front of La Paz's second biggest police station. Everybody got involved and we blocked up the windows at midnight on Friday. While the whole City and country ground to a halt over the next 2 days, Loki kept on rocking, albeit with some shushing.
We got through Firday night without a hitch. A few people wandered out to investigate whether or not everything else was closed. Everything was. We closed a little earlier than normal and let people stay in the bar until the wee hours.
Saturday morning was definitely an odd one. While people had indulged in a few drinks the night before the legendary Loki hangovers were strangley absen. We watched "In Bruges"(brilliant) and " The Love Guru"(rubbish). Saturday night saw the hostel at capacity and the bar was literally heaving. (see video on Facebook)
The boys in green arrived at around 1pm and "helped" us clear the bar. All in all they were pretty understanding and the guests got to see Bolivian Justice in action. Sunday saw the vote and some really nice weather which gave people an excuse to enjoy the sunshine on our brand new roof terrace. At 7m Evo was declared victorious and the music in Loki Bar was blasted out. I hope the police didnt hear the NWA ditty that we put on!
